Freehand sketch 102 - marker sketching

In this article, we¡¯ll cover three topics: the material you need to start marker sketching; the step-by-step sketching procedure demo; a few guide lines. Hope you¡¯ll enjoy it.

Materials

¡¤ Sketch book. I like sketch books with metal spiral coil bindings instead of perfect binding because coil binding won¡¯t cause any paper folding. As to paper type, I prefer smoother texture; and of course, the paper needs to be thick enough to avoid leaving ink stain on the next page.

¡¤ Marker selection. Strong saturated colors are usually used in master plan drawings; lighter colors are preferred in architectural drawings.Lighter colors blend well, so they work together better to represent tones, light conditions and materials. The following are three groups of markers I frequently use. For outdoor sketching, you don¡¯t want to carry too many markers; Yellow/ brown markers. (usually for brick colors) eggshell, cream, jasmine, light peach, sand, light tan, sienna brown, terra cotta
