Backpacking Miami/ Key West/ Fort Lauderdale –Sample travel plans and tips

Note: this travel plan is made to accomodate the need to join my friend for Dec 25,26,27.

Dec 24, 2007 Flight to Fort Lauderdale

Note: To save for holiday travels, choosing Dec 24 th, 2007 (Monday) instead of Dec 22 nd (Saturday) will usually save you about $ 100; also flight to Fort Lauderdale is usually cheaper than flying to Miami. So always try searching “alternate city” and “alternate date” if possible.

Dec 24 th night, 2007- stay @ hostel “ the bridge II at 16 th street.

Experiences: the hostel courtyard is nice, but the 1 st floor female dorm in the corner is not that good. Good location, nice staff. There are detailed info on the hostel’s website about how to get to the place by bus. The No. 1 bus is at the right side of airport luggage claim area. There’re a lot of places to eat around the hostel (Denny’s, Burger King, etc.)

Dec 25 th, 2007

8:00am-3:00pm, hostel to Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Experiences: nice beach, nice sidewalk, nice people and nice bikinis. To get to the beach from Bridge II hostel, take #40 bus ( bus stop is opposite side of the street from No. 1 bus you got off from airport). You can get off at “International Swimming Hall of Fame” where you can not only visit the museum, but take a close look at the waterways where mega yachts made home in. Also, Bonnet House is some where near the beach.
